Industry safety and quality standards expert joins board of B.I. Electrical
An internationally renowned proponent of global quality and safety standards has been appointed to the board of B.I. Electrical Services, it was announced today.
Mr Jim Speirs, who is known globally within the electrical engineering sector having served in high profile roles including Chairman of the Ascertiva Group the industry body which oversees certification, training and safety for the industry, has been appointed as an non-executive Director to B.I. Electrical Services.
The appointment comes on the back of international expansion plans by B.I. Electrical Services of which Mr Speirs, who has extensive experience working in Asia Pacific, Saudi Arabia and the United Emirates, will lead.
Ian Humphreys who founded B.I. Electrical Services in 1989 believes that the appointment will enable the company to enter export markets with enhanced creditability. He said:
“Jim’s experience and track record of operating across international markets is extensive. The value that this will bring as we start to grow our business in these regions is immense. In the coming weeks, Mr Speirs will be leading a delegation from B.I. Electrical Services to China to meet with Government officials and representatives from the business community. We believe that we are ideally placed to take advantage of the significant growth in these markets, something that Jim will play a vital role in building in the months and years ahead.”
Newly appointed board member Jim Speirs said that he was attracted to joining B.I. Electrical Services based on their strong commitment to quality and safety standards and high customer service:

Jim Speirs is past Chairman of the Ascertiva Group which consisted of the NICEIC the certification body NQA. He is presently President of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and a Past President of its forerunner, the Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA). He is also Past Chairman of the Association for British Certification Bodies (ABCB) and a past President of the EEIBA, the electrical and electronics charity.
